Here is a classic photograph that I found in the art files that I’ve been meaning to post for a long time now, Roger Ebert & Calvin Johnson at the 1983 Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado. Photograph taken by Bret Lunsford (or maybe Lois Maffeo).
*sigh* Oh, Calvin…
So, The Hive Dwellers played a pretty awesome acoustic performance at the Market Hotel in NY along with The Curious Mystery! Both bands are currently on the road and you can check out where they are headed to next on our shows page!

Beautiful men & their sweatshirts! Andrew Dorsett & Markly Morrison pose outside of K on Jefferson St.
All you Seattle people—I hope you listened when we told you that the Atlas Sound show was going down. This picture is proof that it awesome: Calvin Johnson and Bradford Cox hanging out backstage, stirring up mischief with eerie, glowing eyes. These two collaborated on making the Atlas Shrugged [DBN113] single a few years back; a meeting of the minds, to be sure.

Beat Happening, 1984: Bret, Heather and Calvin posing on the sound in Olympia, WA. (that’s Bayview in the background!) I came across this photo today in the archives, and thought it was just dreamy.
Jeremy Jay playing a rockin’ set at The Comet in Seattle. (See the whole photo album here.) We did an interview with Jeremy and his band, and then we all went bowling. Our wonderful intern, Jill Pucciarelli’s spectacular shrine to Olympia! Every single item is hand-made (except for the artesian well water in the top right corner!).
Jeremy Jay and his band have been practicing down in Dub Narcotic Studio all this week, from early in the morning until late at night. They’ve got an amazing work ethic. It’s been great listening to them for the past few days, but now they’re heading out to tour the United States. Tonight they’re playing in Portland, OR, and then tomorrow they’ll be back here in Olympia to play at Midnight Sun. If they’re coming to your city, check them out!
AH! Ruby Fray vinyl in the mail today! And with it comes the snow!
Calvin Johnson and K promo specialist Danielle Ruse, in front of the K office this very afternoon. I know, Calvin’s pants are wicked, and trust me, the new Ruby Fray is too. Want a little sneak-peak? Check out Emily’s soundcloud…http://soundcloud.com/rubyfray. I’m gonna listen to this record and drink hot chocolate all week long! Yay snow in Olympia! Photo courtesy of our dear Sarah Cass.
(POST SCRIPT: Can you find our mail wizard Joel Brazzel in the background? Just a hint: he’s in the window)
This is Emily Beanblossom. She plays in the band Christmas, but is coming out with a new LP on K this spring under the name Ruby Fray. The new record is called Pith, was recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio, and sounds fantastic.
This is a photo from our Christmas party that we had a few weeks ago. Chain & The Gang was in the studio at the time, and we all had a ton of fun. Notice that everyone is wearing seasonally appropriate K mittens and scarves!
Ian Svenonius of Chain & The Gang—-all tied up.
(Please note: there are wires holding the stars above Ian’s head. This is photographic evidence of his genius. End note.)
