The only thing that could make an Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets show better is a homemade World Garage piñata! Luckily, at What the Heck Fest #10, they delivered with a piñata full of cone-heads, treats, and giant plastic ears!
On May 25th, Ange is playing on the K Stage at the Northwest Folklife Festival! You don’t wait to miss it!
Wild Kindness Records has announced that they’re going to be releasing a compilation called Sunshine Off The Tracks, a compilation to benefit GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services). This comp features five K bands! (Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets, The Curious Mystery, Lake, Arrington de Dionyso Malaikat Dan Singa, and Nucular Aminals.) Here’s what Wild Kindness has to say about it:
“On June 1, 2012 Wild Kindness Records will release Sunshine Off the Tracks: A Benefit for GEMS. Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) is a New York-based organization designed to serve females, ages 12-24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. GEMS’ mission is to empower girls and young women to exit the commercial sex industry and develop their full potential. Sunshine Off the Tracks features contributions from a wide array of independent musicians and record labels.”
So many sweet bands working for a great cause. Keep an eye out for it this summer!
Here’s a video of Angelo Spencer et Les Hauts Sommets playing a couple of songs on a boat, part of a new web-series called Fishing With Clyde. After the song, there’s a discussion of bees and peanuts, as well as George Washington Carver—or just “Carve” to his friends. There’s even a puppet show, featuring the voice of Karl Blau!
Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets made this charming video for “Estonia” some time ago, but for some reason we haven’t posted it yet. We have no excuse; this video is undeniably awesome.

The Olympia house that Ben Kapp lived in went up in flames early this past Monday morning. Ben and his housemates (Kevin, Jonah, Justin, and Richie) escaped without harm, but the house and everything in it was totally destroyed. These guys are now houseless with the clothes on their backs and nothing else (and they’d be even further up shit creek if not for the American Red Cross). But they lost EVERYTHING - and could use as much help as possible to get their lives back to normal.
Ben plays drums, guitar, and whatever else is nearby in Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets, Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa, Kimya Dawson, Desolation Wilderness, Outdoor Voices, and many other bands that we’re forgetting. He is an important and much-loved part of Olympia music.
