CHAIN & THE GANG WEBLOG CONTEST
Have you played the blog trivia give-away game yet? This one is a bit of a puzzle search-and-find, and if you’re the lucky winner we’ll send you the new Chain & The Gang on vinyl (or CD, if you prefer) and a copy of the Gang’s handmade zine (not for sale. Giveaway item only). Fan fun!
Study the picture above and dig through the K weblog to find the post that ties these seemingly disparate items together (mittens, Ian & Katie, cat head painting) - www.krecs.com/weblog. Send the creation date of the blog-post (its on the top in blue) to brynn@krecs.com (new summer intern!) to enter, with your name and address. We’ll post a ridiculous live video drawing next Tuesday, July 3rd, of all of the entries, so you have until then to answer!
If you haven’t heard the news, the Pine Hill Haints will be releasing Welcome to the Midnight Opry (KLP236) Tuesday, October 4! Boy is this record a doozy - it’s their third full-length on K, and the Haints have never sounded better (and if you’ve been privileged to hear the Ghost Dance and/or To Win or To Lose, then you know we’re really saying something).
If your appetite needs whetting, here’s “Moon Shadow,” warm-hearted and lovelorn.
Like apple pie on the last day of summer: Kendl Winter’s “At the Same Time,” from her Dub Narcotic Disco Plate of the same name. This track was recorded by Calvin Johnson at the esteemed Dub Narcotic Studio, and the B-side gets the graceful remix treatment from Selector Dub Narcotic.
“At the Same Time” b/w “The Same Version” (DBN121) was released on June 7, 2011. This fine 7” is available from the wonderful folks over at the K Mail Order Dept.
This picture of Kendl was taken on her houseboat by K’s own Sarah Cass in 2011.
If you haven’t heard Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets’ summer waverider, World Garage (KLP235), then hop on and get wet!
Here’s “3 Heures,” the album’s halfway point. What a ripper!
Little Wings will be playing the Fall Flood Festival in San Luis Obispo next weekend! Kyle’s got three sets - one mystery set, one solo acoustic, and one backed by Sparrow’s Gate. Check the dates below:
Sep 24, 2011 - San Luis Obispo, CA
afternoon show @ Cuesta Park (2400 Loomis Street) - FALL FLOOD FESTIVAL - The Shants, Sea Birds, The Booker TeaseSep 24, 2011 - San Luis Obispo, CA
night show @ Kreuzberg, CA (685 Higuera Street) - FALL FLOOD FESTIVAL - Mel Russo, Bob Thayer & Joe Lewis, The ShantsSep 25, 2011 - San Luis Obispo, CA
Linnaea’s Cafe (1110 Garden Street) - FALL FLOOD FESTIVAL - the Shants, Sea Birds, The Dead Volts, Siblings, Dedications, Sparrows Gate, West, The Marquees, Nattlesnakes, Blackstrap Molasses, Australian for Kids, Lostribe
Here’s the LP version of “Sandbar,” for those that have never be privileged to hear it.
Fred Thomas (Saturday Looks Good to Me, City Center) is in the Dub Narcotic Studio this week, helping put some finishing touches on a mysterious project with Calvin Johnson. Who knows what magic they are brewing down there? Who are all these talented musicans coming in and out of the studio? Who and what are these Hive Dwellers? We’ll find out sometime in 2012.
Speaking of City Center, the band (Thomas and collaborator Ryan Howard) put out the soundtrack to the summer, Redeemer (KLP231), this past May. Here’s “Modern Love,” one feisty rock jam.
