LAKE TOUR DATES!
Those who adore sugary pop band LAKE have much to look forward to in the coming months as the band has just announced two new releases and a west coast tour. After spending the winter hibernating in the studio, LAKE will be supplied with plenty of new songs to play at their upcoming shows and will be selling a special tour only cassette as well. No other news about the upcoming releases but they are noted to be “distinctly different” which has us both intrigued and excited! (via Pop Press International)

LAKE is just the cutest, and they are spreading their sweet tunes of love throughout the west coast in the months to come! Oh, the places they’ll go!

LAKE practiced their cover of “Hungry Heart” down in the studio this week.  Dream boats, much?

LAKE - “Loose Wind” from Let’s Build a Roof

It was another beautiful and breezy day here in Olympia, WA! Spring is in the air! Speaking of Olympia… LAKE will be playing a FREE show at The Evergreen State College on May 19th. Now how cool is that? And don’t forget to catch them in Seattle this Thursday (April 5th) at the Tractor Tavern!

Beautiful men & their sweatshirts!  Andrew Dorsett & Markly Morrison pose outside of K on Jefferson St.

Wild Kindness Records has announced that they’re going to be releasing a compilation called Sunshine Off The Tracks, a compilation to benefit GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services).  This comp features five K bands! (Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets, The Curious Mystery, Lake, Arrington de Dionyso Malaikat Dan Singa, and Nucular Aminals.)  Here’s what Wild Kindness has to say about it:

“On June 1, 2012 Wild Kindness Records will release Sunshine Off the Tracks: A Benefit for GEMSGirls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) is a New York-based organization designed to serve females, ages 12-24, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. GEMS’ mission is to empower girls and young women to exit the commercial sex industry and develop their full potential. Sunshine Off the Tracks features contributions from a wide array of independent musicians and record labels.”

So many sweet bands working for a great cause.  Keep an eye out for it this summer!

LOOK // Danielle Ruse and Sarah Cass go for a walk in the snow outside of the K office, Wednesday, January 17th.

Beautiful original score by Ashley Erikkson (of LAKE), “Conch,” previously unreleased.

Film by Sarah Cass.

Mr. Karl Blau and LAKE take you for a ride in a “Dark Sedan”.

Here’s the long-lost music video for LAKE’s “Oh, the Places We’ll Go” from the Oh, The Places We’ll Go LP [KLP196], now available for your viewing pleasure.

Tender Forever - Where Are We From
50 plays

NEWS FLASH: today is the big release date for Tender Forever’s Where Are We From EP [KLP237] and LAKE’s “Gravel” Dub Narcotic Disco Plate [DBN116], featuring a B-side Selector Dub Narcotic remix. Note that this is a new version of “Gravel”, not the one released on 2009’s Let’s Build a Roof [KLP213]; the 7” version can be heard here.

To celebrate, here’s the title track from the Tender Forever EP, “Where Are We From”. Melanie is on fire on this record; if you need more evidence, take a listen to “The Road Was Unkind” and “You Have the Woods” on the K Tumblr.

Ashley Eriksson of LAKE made this rad little video for the demo of “Mother Nature’s Promise” and sent it to us to share! It’s a shorter version of the song than that featured on Giving & Receiving (KLP228), and still a gem.

LAKE - Backwards and Forwards
110 plays

One band’s B-side is another fan’s treasure - LAKE’s “Backwards & Forwards” is no filler. Recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio in June 2011 with The Men of LAKE (Mark, Eli, & Andrew), this lil slow burner warms in all the right ways.

“Backwards & Forwards” was a bonus track in the 52nd edition of the K Singles Zip-Pak on July 7, 2011. This transmission featured LAKE’s upcoming “Gravel”/”Re-grade” 7” Dub Narcotic Disco Plate (DBN116).

It’s Thursday! That means tomorrow is Friday and WEEKEND so if you need to prep to dance off some stress, Skrill Meadow is ready to “Rock with U” all night long. This song features Karl Blau (croons, sax) and works some wonderfully wicked magic.

Skrill Meadow is the project of Mark(ly) Morrison (LAKE, Lazer Zeppelin). “Rock with U” is part of an upcoming “house” Skrill Meadow album. If you want to check out another fave, go dig on “Takin My Time,” which became an instant crowd favorite when LAKE played it at this year’s Helsing Junction Sleepover.

Speaking of LAKE, they’ve announced a couple of upcoming shows:

Oct 2, 2011 - Seattle, WA
20/20 Cycle - Hermit Thrushes, Lazer Zeppelin

Oct 8, 2011 - Portland, OR
Mississippi Studios - French Quarter, Key Losers

Get it!

“Gravel,” the A-side from LAKE’s upcoming Disco Plate “Gravel” b/w “Re-Grade” (DBN116), sets you sailing through a sea of sugar.

Be sure to catch LAKE on Sep 5th at this year’s Bumbershoot (where they’re “opening” for Hall and Oates)!
