This song says to me: “Close your eyes and slow dance alone in your room.  Come over and let’s go for a dreamy drive and never ever stop.” What’s it say to you?

Desolation Wilderness - “Come Over In Your Silver Car” - White Light Strobing

#kvideooftheday

Thank you to everyone that donated to Nic’s rad project!  We’ll keep you posted on the movie as it develops. Way to make art happen!

Nic Zwart has gotten halfway to his goal of $11,000 on his Kickstarter!!  Nic is making a movie called King Leaves The Kingdom, and you can hear all about it from this video.  Nic has released records on K as Desolation Wilderness (White Light Strobing [KLP198] and New Universe [KLP204]), and as Electric Sunset (Electric Sunset [KLP221]).  Donate!  Help Nic get the other half of his funding and make his cinematic vision a reality!

A KICKSTARTER TO BELIEVE IN!  Nicholas Zwart, mastermind of Desolation Wilderness and Electric Sunset, is embarking on a new film project and he needs your help to make it happen!

I’m donating my coffee money to him this week, in hopes that his movie will make the world a better (and more entertaining) place.  GOOD LUCK NIC!

Nic Zwart, mastermind behind Electric Sunset and Desolation Wilderness, just sent us this beautiful sounding and looking video for ”Daughter of a Rich Man” by his new project - Drone Ranger. An older version of “Daughter of a Rich Man” can be found on the Desolation Wilderness album Beautiful on the Avenue.

Electric Sunset - Soda

Last year’s Electric Sunset debut LP (KLP221) was packed full of goodies, including the impressive “Soda”. Nic Zwart was also the mastermind behind dream weavers Desolation Wilderness (crafters of two fine K LPs, 2008’s White Light Strobing and 2009’s New Universe).

If you like visuals with your music, here’s “Soda” paired with a timelapse video of a touring bike trip along California’s Highway 1, the famous Pacific Coast Highway.

Want to check out some more? Check out album opener “Palace”, Nic’s new project Drone Ranger, and some early, pre-band Desolation Wilderness “San Fernando Valley”.

Desolation Wilderness - San Fernando Suburbs

It’s snowing here in Olympia, and it feels kinda right to listen to a lot of ambient electronic music in the office. We had some Electric Sunset earlier, and then some Atlas Sound (actually, a lot of Atlas Sound), and then some pre-band Desolation Wilderness.

Here’s some of the DW, with “San Fernando Suburbs” from the album Beautiful on the Avenue.

“Turquoise and Gold” by the dearly-departed Desolation Wilderness.

Originally a solo electronic project by former Dub Narcotic Studio intern and recording engineer Nicolaas Zwart, Desolation Wilderness blossomed into full rock band with a rotating cast that included a number of Olympia’s finest musicians.

DW had a brilliant but short run… after two albums (2008’s White Light Strobing and 2010’s New Universe), a final US tour in Fall 2009 (including a West Coast leg with Christmas), and a brief hop through Europe, Desolation Wilderness functionally ceased in February 2010 when Nic moved from Olympia to San Francisco.

Nic continues to make solo music in the Bay Area as Electric Sunset (check out this great interview over at Heaven is Loud), and teaches kids how to use synthesizers and Logic.
