Our Joey Casio narrates a walk through the House of Doom on Olympia’s Eastside. Party antics ensue before cops shut down the fun.
The House of Doom was demolished about 9 years ago. Some of the footage gets shakey because the camera was supposedly smashed through a couple windows. At the end the cops break up the party and harass folks in the footage.
The House of Doom was the residence of several K artists including Phil Elverum (the Microphones). It also served as the location for of much of the Dub Narcotic Sound System vignette “Shock Mount”.
A creatively-edited and slightly destroyed gem from the K VHS archives - The Mummies demolish the North Shore Surf Club and wreck general havoc on Olympia during the International Pop Underground Convention in Olympia, WA in August 1991.

Calvin Johnson recently found the original lyrics sheet for Modest Mouse’s “Grey Ice Water”. Here’s the page with more info: http://krecs.com/uncategorized/grey-ice-water/
Yet another delectable tidbit brought to you by the fine folks at the Pink Elephant’s Graveyard!
Dub Narcotic Sound System brings the mess - eat on “Shock Mount” from Out of Your Mind [KLP083].
OLYMPIA: here’s the low-down on a couple of great Jeffrey Lewis (The Bundles) shows this Saturday!
Here’s a special something: “Poppers”, the last song of the last set of the short-lived but glorious Olympia band Glow Tips, which featured a number of artists with K ties: guitarists Pat Scott-Walsh (Christmas, Boca a Boca) and Jake Goltiani (Herr Jazz, Brian Formo (K publicist from 2008-2010 and also proprietor of Endless Latino Records), drummer Spencer Carrow (Generifus, Hermit Thrushes, Sick Jumps), and bassist Nick Botka (Christopher Francis & Son, Legs the Crab). This killer-diller May 2010 show at the Mango House also featured sick sets from Christmas, The Maxines (one of their very first shows), legendary garage sloggers The Beets, and Terraform.
The fictitious character Arrington de Dionyso (loosely based on and played by the real Arrington de Dionyso) gives an in-depth presentation on what you can put in your City of Olympia compost. Seriously.
ATTN OLYMPIA - two killer shows coming up this weekend:
See you there!
Check out Mirah’s reimagining of Old Time Relijun’s “Lion Tamer.” This recording is from a show at Northern in Olympia, WA on April 22nd, 2010, and features Kane Mathis on kora.
If you want to hear a rad studio version, go listen to this one from 2008 (recorded by Phil Elverum).
This song is so scary we couldn’t post it for Halloween. The Maxines shred through “Our Earth Name” and leave nothing standing.
And you thought they were cute.
“Our Earth Name” is an extra track from the same session as the Drugstore EP (IPU140), the A-side of which can be blasted here. And here’s a cover song. Need it live? They’ll be blasting through the Pacific NW (yes Canada, this includes you) next weekend. Do whatever you have to do to keep it together until the big day: Drugstore drops on January 24, 2012.
The long-awaited and dearly desired KARP documentary, “Kill All Redneck Pricks”, will make its US debut at the 28th Annual Olympia Film Festival on Wednesday, November 16, 2011! We will see you there.
From the OFS site:
“We are proud to present the U.S. premiere of the long awaited feature documentary about legendary and doomed local heroes KARP. An epic story of the rise and fall of the most hormonally overloaded band of punk-metal geeks to ever emerge from the mossy woods of Thurston County, Kill All Redneck Pricks takes you from the high school corridors and soggy chicken coops of Tumwater, WA to the dizzying heights of punk rock stardom only to make a shockingly painful crash landing. The players are real and the stakes are life, death and the inspired dreams of youth. King Buzzo, Justin Trosper, Kathleen Hanna, Kimya Dawson and Calvin Johnson are just a few of the legion of friends and heroes that narrate the life, death and comic brutality of KARP. This is a vital story of the Pacific Northwest, loud music, and fragile humanity.”
